The aerospace industry is a highly exciting sector - highly technological products and components are manufactured here, which are also subject to the strictest quality standards and safety requirements. These challenges are no problem for BBW Lasertechnik. We undertake laser welding of titanium housings, component assembly and demanding titanium-aluminum welding projects for our various reference customers. We are now an established partner to the aerospace industry in the field of laser material processing.
We manufacture 350 titanium housings per year for the aviation industry. We use laser welding to manufacture the housings - a technology that guarantees precise, high-quality connections.
After the welding process, we subject each production unit to a 100% visual inspection to identify any manufacturing deviations and ensure the best possible quality. We also carry out random sample measurements on measuring machines.
One challenge in production with titanium is the omission of tempering colors, which makes the welding process particularly demanding. However, thanks to our extensive expertise, we also meet the strict standards of the aviation industry.
We specialize in the processing and assembly of products made from challenging materials for orders in the aviation industry.
One example of this is the lower tray, for which we provide laser welding and assembly services. One difficulty with this product is the poor weldability of the aluminum alloy, for which we take the appropriate measures to avoid cracks.
Metallography is an important part of our scope of services here: we analyze the microstructure of the material and carry out non-destructive testing (NDT) both internally and with partner companies. This double check enables us to guarantee the flawless quality and safety of the parts.
For covers, we undertake the laser cutting of the lid and the laser marking for our customers. The covers are then welded into a part provided by the customer. We ensure that the components are precisely positioned and securely welded in.
A special feature here: On the one hand, we realize a bare weld seam without any post-processing. Secondly, we process thin sheet metal made of 1.4301 material with a thickness of just 0.5 mm without welding distortion.
For the titanium tension plate product, we first laser weld the customer parts that we are provided with. After welding, we polish the weld seam to ensure a smooth surface. We then check the seam under a microscope for pores and cracks. In the final step, a welding protocol is created for our customers in order to present the results transparently.
Special features of this process are the welding of titanium without tarnishing and the realization of a penetration weld with the smallest possible root. These challenges require a high level of expertise in dealing with titanium as a material and the associated welding processes.
Our laser welding service is used in the production of status indicators. A resistance measurement is then carried out on the electrical components to ensure that they meet the required specifications.
A 100% visual inspection is also carried out to ensure that each product meets our high standards.
A particular challenge with status indicators is that no tarnish colors are permitted. Pickling - the usual method for removing tarnish - is not possible with this product. For this reason, special care is required during the welding process.
